Description
Steve Albini (1962 - 2024) was incredibly important to me - from the moment I heard "Bone Machine" (1988) and thought, "What IS that?" Recording with him felt like something I'd do eventually, almost inevitably.
So, on May 7th, a month-long journey began. I thought about what decisions he might have made, and what might be unexpected for him to record. Our conversations flowed fondly: The Forms (2007); the solo in "Heart-Shaped Box," (1993); ice cream van music; cats with lasers shooting out of their fingertips; LCD Soundsystem at Madison Square Gardens (2012); cowbells (in or out?) and whether he'd use plug-ins if he were starting out today.
This record isn't about Steve, but it's a reflection on what it might have been like to stand in a room with the red light on and his energy behind the desk.
